An older Black Hills Tantalite specimen displaying substantial black to brownish-black, dense crystalline masses with broad, roughly prismatic surfaces and areas of pronounced parallel striation. Portions retain a dark submetallic to somewhat resinous luster, contrasting with rusty brown alteration and remnants of the surrounding pegmatitic matrix. A solid locality specimen of this uncommon tantalum-bearing mineral from the historic Black Hills pegmatite region.
