A compact white Mesolite specimen composed of dense radiating sprays of fine, elongated crystals. The intersecting sprays form attractive fan-shaped and fibrous aggregates with a silky to pearly luster, while portions of the specimen show a faint cream to very pale pink coloration.
Mesolite is a hydrated sodium-calcium zeolite that commonly forms within cavities of volcanic rocks. Its name refers to its intermediate chemistry between the related zeolites Natrolite and Scolecite, and it characteristically forms delicate acicular to fibrous crystals and radiating aggregates.
