Petrified Elm Wood
Hoodoo Creek, La Grande, Oregon
Dimensions: 6.1 x 4.5 x 1.8 cm
A beautiful vintage specimen of petrified elm wood from Hoodoo Creek, Oregon, featuring a naturally weathered exterior and a cut, highly polished face that reveals exceptionally well-preserved internal wood structure. Rich chocolate brown, smoky gray, caramel and golden-brown tones follow the original growth patterns, with numerous fine concentric growth lines visible throughout the cross-section.
Hoodoo Creek is a noted Oregon locality for petrified elm, with silicification preserving remarkably fine details of the original wood. This specimen is an especially attractive example: the polished face displays pronounced growth-ring structure, subtle variations in the preserved woody tissue, and areas of warm golden translucency. Mineral-filled fractures crossing the wood add another layer of visual detail without obscuring the original growth pattern.
The unpolished reverse retains the specimen's natural weathered character, providing an excellent contrast with the glossy display face. Its combination of identifiable fossil wood, classic Oregon provenance, strong preservation and original vintage collection label makes it a particularly appealing locality specimen.
