The specimen prominently displays calcite's characteristic rhombohedral cleavage, producing large geometric faces, stepped surfaces and intersecting cleavage planes. Subtle variations in transparency range from nearly colorless along the outer portions to deeper smoky gray through the interior, giving the specimen considerable visual depth.
