Unakite is a metamorphic rock composed primarily of pink orthoclase feldspar, green epidote, and clear to gray quartz. Its distinctive mottled appearance reflects the natural intergrowth of these minerals during metamorphism.
Originally identified in the Unaka Mountains of the eastern United States, Unakite forms when granite is altered by hydrothermal processes, introducing epidote and transforming the original rock. Each piece displays unique color distribution depending on mineral proportions.
