A translucent to colorless specimen of Gypsum displaying broad, satiny cleavage surfaces and fine parallel striations. The specimen has a soft pearly to vitreous luster with areas of exceptional translucency characteristic of crystalline Gypsum.
Gypsum is a hydrated calcium sulfate mineral and an important evaporite mineral, forming where mineral-rich waters evaporate and leave extensive sulfate deposits.
