Large, steel-gray to nearly black Wolframite crystals are prominently exposed in a contrasting white Quartz matrix. The Wolframite displays a brilliant submetallic luster with strongly striated crystal surfaces and broad reflective faces. Additional metallic mineralization occurs throughout the matrix, creating an especially rich and visually striking specimen.
Wolframite is an iron-manganese tungstate mineral and one of the principal ores of tungsten. Its characteristically dense, dark crystals are commonly found in hydrothermal quartz veins associated with granitic systems.
