A vivid rough specimen of Mexican Cherry Opal displaying exceptionally saturated tangerine-orange to reddish-orange color. The opal ranges from translucent to locally transparent, with glossy conchoidal fracture surfaces and flowing cream-to-pale-pink zones visible through portions of the interior. Its almost neon orange color is especially striking under direct illumination.
“Cherry Opal” is a traditional trade name for Mexican orange-to-red opal without play-of-color; deeper orange and cherry-red colors are generally the more desirable grades.
