Gadolinite
Iveland, Agder, Norway
Dimensions: 2.5 × 2.4 × 1.7 cm
Provenance: Original vintage collection label, catalog no. 221, included with specimen.
A striking Gadolinite specimen featuring deep black coloration and a glossy, glassy to resinous luster. The specimen displays broad, irregular fracture surfaces with subtle conchoidal textures, fine striations, and reflective highlights. Areas of earthy brown and tan host rock remain attached along the edges, providing a contrasting backdrop to the dark mineral.
Gadolinite is a rare-earth-bearing silicate mineral historically associated with the discovery and study of several rare-earth elements. The Iveland region of southern Norway is renowned for its rare-element pegmatites, which have produced an exceptional variety of collectible minerals. This specimen represents a classic Norwegian mineral locality and retains its original vintage collection label.
