Garnet (Massive)
Arizona, USA
Dimensions: 4.0 × 3.8 × 2.0 cm
Provenance: Original vintage collection label, catalog no. 206, included with specimen.
A richly colored specimen of massive Garnet displaying deep reddish-brown, burgundy, and nearly black tones. Its irregular surface reveals intergrown crystalline material with a vitreous to resinous luster, while fractured edges expose translucent areas of warm amber-red and fiery orange when illuminated. Layered textures, angular fracture surfaces, and subtle variations in color create an intriguing interplay of light and depth throughout the specimen.
Garnet is a group of silicate minerals known for their distinctive crystal structures, durability, and wide range of colors. Massive garnet occurs as intergrown crystalline aggregates rather than well-defined individual crystals and is commonly associated with metamorphic rocks. Arizona has numerous garnet-bearing geological formations, making this specimen an interesting example of the state's diverse mineral heritage.
